Today, another prompt from the NaBloPoMo website:

Have you ever had a mystical, supernatural, or religious experience? Tell us about it.

I'm going to go way out on a limb here and talk about my first (and only) UFO sighting.

It was back in high school. I was walking home after visiting my grandmother. It was the same route I always took home, nothing strange about it. At least until I reached the street that separated the park and the middle school.

A few weeks earlier, there had been a "mass UFO sighting" near the middle school. That night, the school's auditorium roof also collapsed, leading to what must have been the only panic over something supernatural that I've ever seen. The UFO must have done it! OMG!

...turns out, no one was clearing the snow off of the auditorium roof, and that was what caused the roof to cave in. Panic averted.

I don't really remember what I thought of the whole thing. I probably thought it was funny that so many people believed aliens did it. I remember being really weirded out a little while earlier when one of my teachers freely confessed that he believed in aliens.

So there I was, walking along the dark street, when I just happened to look up.

There was something hovering in the sky there. It had a triangular shape, with white lights spaced evenly around the edges. In the center was a soft red-and-blue light. I must have stared at it for thirty seconds, trying to figure out what the hell it was, before it finally flew away without a sound.

I ran the rest of the way home and locked myself in my bedroom. I couldn't tell anyone about it. My mother would laugh at me and tell me that I was stupid, my brother wouldn't care. So, I had only one real option.

Just a few days ago, I had been secretly laughing at the teacher who told me he believed in aliens. And there I was, knocking on his door to tell him that I had seen a freaking UFO the night before. That conversation didn't go well at all, and I left even more freaked the hell out than I was before.

I don't remember what happened beyond that. I suppose I put it out of my mind, and this is the first time I've really talked about it since it happened.

So, that's my story.
